We travelled down to Heële* on Friday, because we would start Saturday at Boogies Extreme in Valkenberg*. Boogies Extreme is an initiative of the well-know Dutch cyclist Michael Boogerd. To be exact, we were with the 4 of us, with only one Limburger to join us. Let’s call him Tommi (he remains anonymous). Tommi is a cellorides first-class fan, one of the first hour, and soon a Licello team rider / ambassador No. 1 too! We were unfortunately with the 3 of us after 17 km riding, and we already had to say goodbye to one of our bludgers, our mountain guide was catapulted by, yes beware, an e-biker.
The E-bike also battered, with 30 cases per hour on the bike path, raged against into the group and caused a crash. From a distance we saw some cyclists crashing with front flip and somersault through the air. The damage was luckily small, unfortunately had our biking mountain climber to say goodbye to us. After the crash, he had to walk. His front wheel was no longer round, but rather elliptical by a broken spoke. His chick, sorry ;-) girlfriend (has once again mega ‘did some chicking’, you don’t know what this means this word!?? In Dutch this is when a bike girl is overtaking a bike man) rode and pounding on with us over the 160 kilometres and 2311 vertical meters. So she could cross one goal of her wish list. What a performance and what a perseverance of her!
The weather was pure, pure spring classic on this late summer day ..! Wet, slippery, sun, rain and cold. Brrr. It was really a jacket-on/jacket-off day. And yet -still the kilometres were beautiful and the climbs ditto. What we enjoyed the ride for a 100%.
If you’re never biked in the rain, you never really cycled!
Ride hard ride smart
*Limburg names are written not in Dutch, but in the province’s dialect, so our friends and fans out of Limburg understand where we’ve been
